Hey all. So with the G1 approaching, an important match is set to take place. The IWGP Intercontinental Championship and the IWGP United States Championship are set to collide for the first time in Naito vs Moxley. With this I wanted list the stats of all 5 current NJPW singles titles and their records against each other in singles matches. Acronyms will be used from here on. HW, IC, US, OW, Jr, CvC.
HW vs IC 0-1
(IC) Hirooki Goto def. (HW) Kazuchika Okada - G1 Climax 2508-01-15
HW vs US 1-1
(US) Kenny Omega def. (HW) Kazuchika Okada - G1 Climax 2708-12-17
(HW) Kenny Omega def. (US) Juice Robinson - G1 Climax 2807-26-18
HW vs OW 4-0-1
(HW) Kazuchika Okada def. (OW) Tetsuya Naito - Wrestle Kingdom 801-04-14
(HW) AJ Styles def. (OW) Yujiro Takahashi - G1 Climax 2408-06-14
DRAW (HW) Kazuchika Okada vs. (OW) Minoru Suzuki - G1 Climax 2708-08-17
(HW) Kenny Omega def. (OW) Hirooki Goto - G1 Climax 2807-19-18
(HW) Jay White def. (OW) Will Ospreay - 47th Anniversary Event03-06-19
IC vs OW 1-0
(IC) Michael Elgin def. (OW) Katsuyori Shibata - G1 Climax 2507-27-16
US vs OW 2-0
(US) Kenny Omega def. (OW) Minoru Suzuki - G1 Climax 2707-20-17
(US) Juice Robinson def. (OW) Hirooki Goto - G1 Climax 2808-11-18
HW vs Jr 3-1* Looking up the matches for this is much harder since both titles stretch back to the 90s. I've only been able to compile the information from recent history. If anyone else wants to help fill the gap please go ahead. I'm quite sure Liger and Mutoh have some matches.
(HW) Hiroshi Tanahashi def. (Jr) Prince Devitt - NJPW Anniversary Show03-03-13
(Jr) Prince Devitt def. (HW) Kazuchika Okada - G1 Climax 2308-01-13
(HW) Kazuchika Okada def. (Jr) Kota Ibushi - NJPW Strong Style 42nd Anniversary Show03-06-14
(HW) Kazuchika Okada def. (Jr) Will Ospreay - NJPW Anniversary Event03-06-18
NOTES
Intercontinental Championship - Highly protected title. It's only had 2 CvC matches both of which it won. Almost every year it does a great job of avoiding the other titles by being in its own block. Last year Jericho didn't even let it compete. This year it's unlucky as now it has 2 challengers.
United States Championship - Also a highly protected title. It's had 4 CvC matches in its short life, 3 of which were won. The only loss coming from its former champion Kenny Omega. The US and HW titles may be tied, but Kenny is the all around winner.
NEVER Openweight Championship - Jobber to the stars championship. It's been in 8 CvC matches and lost 7 of them. The 8th being a time limit draw. The HW Title dominates the OW Title, but not as much as the HW title dominates Goto or Okada dominates Sanada. Ishii is carrying a heavy burden when he faces Naito and Mox this year.
Junior Heavyweight Championship - Again, apologies for not going all the way back in time. But it's gonna take much longer to find all the info on HW vs Jr CvC matches. Using recent history though we can tell the Jr Champion loses almost always to the HW Champion. It's a B+ Title. It has never had a CvC match with the other championships. And this year just like the year Devitt was in the G1, it's avoided the other titles again aside from the HW. This is most likely to protect it from more losses.
Heavyweight Championship - The main attraction, the headliner, the grand main event championship. It has more CvC matches than any Championship. It has a few major losses, but far more wins under itself. It's beaten all the other titles except for the IC Championship. The HW vs IC CvC match is very protected.
I've also created another stat some months back for NJPW.
EDIT - A breakdown of the wrestlers stats in CvC matches.
Kenny 4-0
Okada 3-3-1 with a win over Naito and 2 [at the time] Juniors.
Styles 1-0
Tana 1-0
Jay 1-0
Elgin 1-0
Juice 1-1
Devitt 1-1
Goto 1-2
Suzuki 0-1-1
Shibata 0-1
Naito 0-1
Ibushi 0-1
Yujiro 0-1
Ospreay 0-2
